Hyderabad: After BRS, BJP, AIMIM and
CPI opposed demolitions in the Musi river bed,
CPM's city unit and other smaller left parties on Tuesday demanded that the Congress govt should not touch any houses until they convince the project-affected families to voluntarily shift to 2-BHKs and accept compensation packages offered by the state.
Earlier, CPI state secretary and MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao visited areas abutting the Musi and, after interacting with the families there, said no forcible demolitions should be taken up.
CPI, a pre-poll ally of Congress, said it would support development, but only after the poor living in the river bed were well taken care of.
At a round table meeting held at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram on Tuesday, CPM city secretary M Srinivas said a resolution was adopted to stand by the families living in the Musi river bed and its buffer zones. "We will take up agitations against the demolitions if the govt fails to convince the project-affected families to give way for Musi riverfront development. Also, the govt should explain to them about the project and their future at alternate places, as the families do not want to shift to places located far from schools in which their children are studying and from the workplaces of the parents," he added.
All India Prajatantra Mahila Sangam city secretary M Varalakshmi, CPI ML New Democracy state leader Jhansi, CPI ML Mass Line state leader SL Padma, Progressive Organisation of Women leader Sandhya, Human Rights Forum member Syed Bilal, and some representatives of families living in the Musi bed participated in the meeting.
