Navi Mumbai, 9th October 2024: A significant meeting concerning the renaming of Navi Mumbai International Airport took place at the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation in Delhi, bringing together leaders from Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Raigad to advocate for honouring the late D.B. Patil. Known for his strong advocacy for the rights of ‘bhoomiputras’ (sons of the soil), Patil was instrumental in supporting farmers and those affected by various projects.
Public Works Minister Ravindra Chavan, part of the delegation, confirmed that the Mahayuti government has officially decided to name the airport after D.B. Patil in recognition of his efforts to secure justice and compensation for local farmers and residents. Chavan underscored Patil’s dedication to the rights of ‘Bhoomi Putra’ and his vital role in advocating for their compensation and livelihood security.
The meeting included Union Ministers Ram Mohan Naidu and Muralidhar Mohol, who, along with other delegates, expressed confidence that the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would approve the renaming proposal. Chavan noted that Patil’s legacy continues to motivate many in the region.
Attendees included prominent figures such as former Minister Kapil Patil, Jagannath Patil, former MP Ramsheth Thakur, MPs Darishsheel Patil and Srirang Barne, MLA Prashant Thakur, former MP Sanjeev Naik, MNS MLA Raju Patil, and Shekap leader J.M. Mhatre, along with other influential leaders from Thane, Raigad, and Navi Mumbai.
