Haryana assembly elections: India's richest woman Savitri Jindal backs BJP, says 'for development of Hisar'

India's richest woman, Savitri Jindal, has decided to support BJP for the development of Hisar, adding to BJP's bid for a third term in Haryana. Her support, along with two other Independent candidates, brings BJP's state assembly numbers to 51.

Savitri Jindal, the richest woman in the country who won Haryana elections as an independent, extended support to BJP who is all set to form government in the state for the historic third time. While extending the support, Jindal said she was backing the party "for the development of Hisar".
"For the development of Hisar, for the people to know about the place, I have decided to support the BJP government," ANI quoted Savitri Jindal as saying.

Earlier today she met with Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb.
"Dharmendra Pradhan, Biplab Deb and Surendra Nagar visited my residence and met Savitri ji. My mother has told them that her purpose of politics and contesting elections is to make sure that Hisar develops, and that she fulfills the dreams of (Om Prakash) Jindal," Naveen Jindal said after the meeting.

In the latest development, with her, and two other Independents who have already declared their support, the BJP's number in the state assembly has reached 51.

Savitri Jindal, the mother of BJP's Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal, had won from her stronghold Hisar after contesting as an Independent against the BJP's Kamal Gupta. Earlier, she served as minister in the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress govt between 2005 and 2013 before quitting the party.
The other two independent candidates are Devender Kadyan, an entrepreneur-turned-politician from Sonipat district, and Congress rebel Rajesh Joon.
Kadyan defeated former speaker and senior Congress’s Kuldeep Sharma by 35,209 votes from Ganaur.While Joon, a confidant of ex-CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, won from Bahadurgarh by defeating Dinesh Kaushik of BJP by 41,994 votes.
