4 held for killing former gang man

Patiala: Police in Fatehgarh Sahib have arrested four men in connection with the Oct 2 murder of a Mandi Gobindgarh resident in Badinpur village.
The arrested men are members of a gang involved in extortion and drug trafficking.
Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Ravjot Grewal said a country-made pistol, two iron rods, and a Mahindra Scorpio SUV have been seized from the accused. He added the accused are history-sheeters.
The SSP said the probe revealed that the accused had been operating an extortion ring in Mandi Gobindgarh, Khanna, Kharar, Chandigarh, Doraha, and Samrala, and were also involved in drug dealing.Murder victim Taranjit Singh had previously been friends with one of the accused, Dheeraj Batta, but had distanced himself due to personal reasons.
This caused resentment in Batta and his associates Amninder Singh, Tarnpreet Singh, Gaurav Kumar, and Sandeep Singh, as they feared Taranjit might form his own gang.
SSP said the accused had been following Taranjit for some time and then killed him in an attack with sharp-edged weapons in Badinpur.
Grewal said police had arrested Batta, one Amarjit Singh alias Balwan, Amninder, and Sandeep.
