Ask Silver: A New AI-Powered Tool to Help You Detect Scam Texts

The UK has a new AI-enabled scam detection tool that helps users identify whether a text is safe or not. The tool is called Ask Silver and it can be used inside WhatsApp. Once you sign up, it looks like just any other contact on your phone.

The next time you get a suspicious text, all you have to do is upload the screenshot and it will tell you whether it’s safe or not.

The feature is not limited to WhatsApp texts. If you receive a suspicious email or a suspicious message on a website, you can share that screenshot as well with Ask Silver and it will tell you how safe it is. Not just that, it will also guide you on your next step and help you report the message if needed.

What Do the Creators Have to Say?

This amazing tool is a collaboration between its creators and the popular non-profit scam protection group, Get Safe Online, which is helping with its public launch while raising awareness about staying safe from scams.

‘Despite new requirements for banks, it is imperative that all of us remain vigilant when it comes to scams.
‘ – Tony Neate, chief executive of Get Safe Online

For those who are not aware, the UK has passed a new rule that will require banks to reimburse scam victims for up to £85,000. Previously, the amount was decided to be £415,000 but after banks and financial institutions revolted, it was reduced. This rule is applicable to all victims of Authorized Push Payment (APP) fraud and will be coming into effect from October 7.

Tony also added that this tool is revolutionary and people should definitely download Ask Silver, add it to their WhatsApp, and try it out.

Alex Somervell, the founder of Ask Silver, also shared his thoughts and said with technological advancement, financial scams are getting more and more sophisticated. So it’s important that users have certain tools at their disposal that will empower them and help them stay safe so they can live without fear.
