Mumbai: A portion of a ground-plus-three-storey MHADA building collapsed on Maulana Azad Road, Madanpura at Byculla (W) at around 12.40 pm on Tuesday. According to a BMC release, the 30 residential rooms and eight shops of Karim Building were vacated. Advocate Zubair Azmi, who resided opposite Karim Building, said, "The building was not in the extremely dangerous category.
A contractor of the repair board was carrying out repairs to the building. While the contractor's men were setting up a support structure for repairs, it was noticed that plaster was falling, which gave an indication." The residents moved out on their own before the portion collapsed. There were more than 130 residents, and they were likely to be accommodated in a transit camp.
