Lucknow: The city is set to develop 20 new high-tech vending zones, modelled after the existing vending zone in Gomtinagar's Vibhuti Khand.
Mayor Sushma Kharakwal has directed officials concerned to collaborate with ward councillors to identify suitable locations for these new zones. She said that 44 model vending trolleys have been constructed near the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan intersection in Vibhuti Khand, which serves as the city's first high-tech vending zone.
This zone features 40 shops equipped with amenities such as charging points and seating areas for customers. Dustbins are placed outside each shop to promote cleanliness, and the entire zone is designed in a uniform colour scheme.
The Vibhuti Khand vending zone includes uniform trolleys with European-style umbrellas and has created employment opportunities for local vendors. Mayor Kharakwal mentioned that the vending zone is scheduled for inauguration soon. Similar vending zones are planned in locations, including Gomtinagar, Indiranagar, Mahanagar, Aashiana, Kanpur Road LDA Colony, Nishatganj near Lucknow University, Jankipuram and Gomtinagar Extension.
The new vending zones are expected to prioritise uniformity and greenery, with plans to plant trees around the areas. The selection process for locations is nearing completion, with each ward proposing two to three potential sites to ensure the zones are not located on busy roads, which could contribute to traffic congestion.
