Ahmedabad: The city reported 81 cases of dengue, 10 cases of
chikungunya and fur cases of malaria between Oct 1 and 5, according to epidemic statistics released by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's health department on Tuesday.
According to data, from Jan 1 to Oct 5 this year, the city recorded 9,159 cases of gastroenteritis, 4,409 cases of typhoid, 2,395 cases of jaundice, 1,701 cases of dengue, 680 cases of malaria, 197 cases of cholera, 142 cases of chikungunya and 83 cases of severe malaria.
Between Oct 1 and 5, the AMC tested 14,916 blood samples and 952 serum samples. They conducted chlorine tests on 14,337 water samples, of which 31 showed no chlorine presence. Bacteriological tests were performed on 1,165 water samples, of which 14 were found unfit.
An AMC official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said, "Compared to Aug and Sep, dengue cases have decreased in the city. Three children died due to dengue in Aug, but there were no deaths in Sep. The number of dengue cases has declined, too. The mosquito menace in the city has also reduced. It is expected that dengue cases will continue to decrease in the coming days. Compared to last year, there are fewer dengue cases this year. Inspections are being conducted at construction sites to reduce mosquito breeding, and penalties are being imposed where breeding is found."
