Chennai police foil college student robbery: Autorickshaw driver among two arrested

Two men, including an autorickshaw driver, were arrested in Chennai for robbing two college students. The incident occurred on October 3 when the students were traveling in a shared auto. The suspects threatened the students and stole their mobile phones. Police recovered the autorickshaw, phones, and a knife. The men were remanded in judicial custody.

CHENNAI: Two people, including an autorickshaw driver, were arrested for robbing two college students who had been employed part-time in a private firm.
The incident occurred when the students were travelling in a shared autorickshaw from Madhavaram on October 3. Police recovered an autorickshaw, two stolen mobile phones, and a knife from the arrested suspects.
The arrested individuals were identified as R Vignesh, 22, of Vyasarpadi, and M Ajay, 20, an autorickshaw driver and resident of Erikkarai in Vyasarpadi.

Police stated that the victims were college students, Habib Batcha, 18, who is studying in the first year of B.Com at a city college, and Kamalakannan, 17, who is studying at another college in Meenambakkam. They boarded a shared autorickshaw from Madhavaram.
According to the complainant, there was another commuter travelling in the same auto when they boarded the vehicle.
The driver stopped the autorickshaw atop the Madhavaram flyover, and both the commuter and the driver threatened the two college students to part with their valuables.
The duo snatched their two mobile phones and sped away after abandoning them on the road.
Based on their complaint, the Madhavaram police registered a case and arrested Vignesh, a college student, and Ajay for robbing the two college students. The arrested duo was remanded in judicial custody after being produced before a magistrate court in the city.
