Ahmedabad: Amdavadis found it tough to handle the sweltering heat as the mercury on Monday touched a high of 37.4°C, a sharp spike from Saturday's 35°C. According to the India meteorological department (
IMD), this is 1.7°C higher than the usual Oct heat. Even the nights offered no relief, with the minimum temperature hovering at 25.5°C, also 1.7°C higher than normal — unusually warm for this time of year.
The heat made residents restless and uneasy. "
Monsoon has retreated but the weather continues to be balmy. It is impossible to go out without sweating buckets," said a frustrated resident.
The IMD has warned of hotter days ahead, predicting a 2 to 3 degree rise in both maximum and minimum temperatures over the next week.
With the southwest monsoon officially withdrawing through Navsari and Nandurbar, experts expect the heat to linger before cooler winter winds offer relief. Naliya recorded the highest temperature at 38.2°C on Monday, followed by Deesa and Surendranagar at 37.8°C each.
