Guwahati: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president and state legislator K Meghachandra Singh received summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday, asking him to appear in person in New Delhi regarding an unspecified case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act of 2002 (15 of 2003).
Meghachandra’s counsel, Manipur high court advocate and AICC executive member, law department, Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, told TOI, “Since he has received and seen the summons today (Oct 7) and he was asked to appear in person on the same day in New Delhi, which is impossible for him to do so.”
The summons, issued by ED assistant director Amit Kumar, asked the PCC chief to provide evidence and produce records in connection with an investigation.
AICC general secretary and MP Jairam Ramesh wrote on X that Meghachandra Singh “has been speaking out fearlessly and aggressively against the non-biological PM, the Union Home Minister, the Chief Minister of Manipur, and the BJP, exposing the manner in which they have destroyed Manipur since May 2023”.
“Today he has received summons from the ED. This is nothing but the politics of vendetta, vengeance, harassment, and revenge,” he wrote adding, “This action is to cover up the Union Govt's colossal failures in the state - reflected in Mr. Narendra Modi's refusal to visit the state since it blew up 17 months back. Those who are afraid intimidate. @INCIndia will NEVER be silenced.”
