Mangaluru: A man fell victim to an online trading scam, resulting in a loss of Rs 90.9 lakh. The complainant stated that on July 1, he received a message from a WhatsApp group called ‘613-HDFC Securities Official Stock.' The message contained information about stock trading, and the group offered online training related to it.
On July 16, an unknown individual sent a link to the WhatsApp group for opening a trading account.
The complainant opened the link and entered his personal details, successfully setting up a trading account. Following this, he received additional messages in the WhatsApp group about stock trading, encouraging him to invest more money with promises of high returns. Initially, he was asked to invest Rs 5,000.
From July 22 to Aug 16, he continued receiving messages from the company representatives of ‘613-HDFC Securities Official Stock Trading,' who convinced him to invest more in stock trading, assuring him of greater profits. As a result, the complainant gradually transferred a total of Rs 90.9 lakh to various bank accounts provided by these unknown individuals. When he attempted to withdraw his investments from the company, he found it impossible. Sensing something was amiss, he consulted his friends and discovered that he was scammed.
Victim Loses Rs 16.8 lakh
Meanwhile, in Udupi, Abdul Rafiath filed a complaint stating that he joined a WhatsApp group called WEBISDOM, which offered information about stock market trading. The group claimed that if he invested money in stock trading, he would receive additional funds. Following this, the complainant transferred a total of Rs 16.8 lakh for trading purposes. However, he alleged that neither the invested money nor any profits from the trading activities were returned, amounting to fraud. A case was registered at the CEN police station.
