Kanpur: A swarm of bees attacked and injured 20 people who had travelled from Bhognipur to participate in rituals during the Navratri festival following a wedding ceremony in Chitauli village located within the limits of Sajeti police station of the district.
Among the injured, seven have been admitted to the district hospital, while the remaining are receiving medical treatment at Sajeti hospital.

Kusma, a 55-year-old resident of Bhognipur and wife of Awadhesh, who is currently admitted to the district hospital, said that her parental home is situated in Chitauli village. Her son Ramji's marriage took place two years back. During the Navratri celebrations, she visited the goddess temple in Chitauli accompanied by her family, in-laws, son, and daughter-in-law to offer prayers, she said.
Someone had reportedly disturbed a beehive on a banyan tree in close proximity to the temple in Chitauli. As they commenced the rituals and smoke emanated, the bees launched an attack, Kusma said. Her relatives sustained serious injuries, she said.
