Assam police seize drugs worth over Rs 8.5 crore during statewide anti-narcotics ops

In Assam, anti-narcotics operations led by the Assam Police have resulted in the seizure of drugs worth over Rs 8.5 crore and the arrest of one individual. The operations in Biswanath and Cachar districts confiscated 314 kg of ganja, 572 grams of heroin, and 10,000 Yaba tablets. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the efforts.

NEW DELHI: In a series of successful anti-narcotics operations across Assam, drugs worth over Rs 8.5 crore were seized, and one individual was arrested, according to a statement by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday.
Sharing the details in a post on X, Sarma reported that narcotics, including ganja, heroin, and Yaba tablets, were recovered from Biswanath and Cachar districts.
Based on reliable information, the Assam Police "carried out anti-narcotics operations and recovered a huge quantity of drugs."
In Biswanath district, law enforcement officials intercepted a vehicle at a checkpoint on NH-15, resulting in the confiscation of 314 kg of ganja, valued at Rs 1.57 crore.

In addition, the Cachar district police executed two special operations in Silchar and Ramnagar. These efforts led to the recovery of 572 grams of heroin and 10,000 Yaba tablets, with an estimated market value of Rs 7 crore. One individual was arrested in connection with these seizures.
Yaba tablets, containing a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine and commonly referred to as the "crazy drug," are banned in India. Chief Minister Sarma commended the Assam Police for their continued vigilance in combating drug trafficking in the region.
