Thane Police Arrest 28-Year-Old Man for Alleged Murder During Alcohol-Fueled Dispute

Thane, 8th October 2024: Kalwa police apprehended a 28-year-old man on Sunday for the alleged murder of another man in Thane. The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Rahul Prajapati, a former employee of a private retail chain who lived with his family in Bhaskar Colony, Kalwa. He had lost his job five months prior. The suspect, Ramesh Mali, also 28, resides in Bhaskar Colony and works at a flower shop.

The incident occurred on October 2 around 11:30 PM when both men were sitting in the hilly area of Bhaskar Colony. According to police reports, a dispute erupted between them over minor issues while they were under the influence of alcohol. During the altercation, Mali struck Prajapati in the neck. Fearing the consequences, Prajapati did not report the incident to the police, which ultimately led to his death at the hands of Mali.

Authorities were alerted to the situation by a resident, and when they arrived, Prajapati was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Using technical intelligence and CCTV footage, police located Mali while he was on the move. He was subsequently arrested, and during questioning, he confessed to the crime. Senior Police Inspector Ashok Utekar from Kalwa Police Station stated, “We arrested the suspect in Kalwa, presented him in court, and secured his remand in police custody until October 10. The investigation is ongoing.”
