New Delhi: A food delivery executive died after he was hit by a vehicle near southwest Delhi's Munirka on Monday. He was crossing the road when the accident occurred. Police are investigating whether he was on the job or was going to have tea from a nearby stall.
The deceased was identified as Harendra, who lived with his family in RK Puram.
Police received a PCR call at 2.45 am.
A team from the local police station rushed to the spot, which was near DDA flats on Outer Ring Road.
"Upon arrival, we found that Harendra had been struck by an unknown vehicle. He was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival," police said.
During initial investigations, the offending vehicle was identified and a case under sections 281(1) (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of BNS was registered at the Kishangarh police station. Multiple teams have been formed to crack the case. They are scanning the CCTV footage to ascertain the routes taken by the accused to flee, police said.
Harendra is survived by his wife, Chetna, and their six-month-old son. His father, Suresh Chand Sharma, works in DDA. His untimely death has left his family in grief. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
Harendra's elder brother, Sanjay, explained that the former worked as a multipurpose health worker at a hospital in south Delhi. He used to work as a food delivery executive at night. "He only used to sleep for a few hours," Sanjay said.
"Being the breadwinner, Harendra wanted to ensure a better life for his wife and child. He recently became a father and worked diligently to earn more money and give his family a comfortable future," he added.
On Monday morning, the family received a devastating phone call from police about the accident. His wife and other members of the family rushed to the hospital, only to be met with the heartbreaking news of Harendra's death.
