Govt to conduct groundwater census
T'puram: Govt with the support of Kudumbashree members will conduct a groundwater census, said irrigation and water resources minister Roshy Augustine.
The project, aimed at assessing the state's groundwater resource capacity, will be completed in two phases, with Phase-I beginning in 93 selected blocks.
Trained Kudumbashree workers will utilize a mobile app called ‘Neerarivu' to gather information and conduct house visits.

The census will collect data on the location, type, depth, water availability, usage, and soil composition of all types of groundwater sources, including wells, borewells, ponds, and springs across the state.
Upon completion of the census, the state will be able to identify drought-prone regions, develop scientific groundwater conservation projects, plan drought preparedness activities, ensure clean water availability, and prevent waterborne diseases, the minister said.
