Jaipur: Four men being pursued by the city police in separate incidents for their alleged involvement in crime ended up getting badly injured in their bid to avoid arrest on Monday.
In the first incident, as a team of cops from Vidhyadhar Nagar police station chased Anil Kumar Yogi (21) and Rahul Lal (22), both suspected of involvement in a series of chain-snatchings across the city, the duo ran and jumped into a gorge.
The sharp stones in the gorge resulted in the duo having fractures in their legs.
"The two men tried to flee by jumping into the gorge and got hurt. We captured them and rushed them to hospital," said a police official.
In the second case, Akash Mehra (20), wanted in connection with 32 cases of theft and purse-snatching, sped off on his bike when he spotted cops from Jawahar Circle police station closing in on him. However, he lost control, and his bike skidded over stones near a road divider, leaving him injured. "Mehra was attempting to avoid capture and crashed due to speeding. He was immediately hospitalised," said a police official.
In the third incident, 20-year-old Sagar Khinchi, wanted in an assault case, tried to run away from the cops at Bagru. He ended up hurting himself and got caught. The cops took him to a hospital in custody.
The city police maintained that the four men's injuries were accidental and a result of their own actions. "All the injuries were self-inflicted. We provided them medical care immediately after taking them into custody," said a police official.
