NCP complains about 24,000 names appearing twice in voter list in Kalwa-Mumbra
Thane: The NCP city unit has complained to the district election department about more than 24,000 names appearing twice in the voter list of the Kalwa-Mumbra assembly constituency, which is part of the Thane Lok Sabha constituency.
Party district president and spokesperson Anand Paranjape addressed the media on Monday, raising questions about the functioning of the election department and complaining that despite repeated complaints, the number of dual or bogus voters in the assembly constituency had not decreased.
The party alleged that the department was working under the influence of a senior NCP (SP) politician and warned the administration that it would approach the Bombay high court if appropriate action was not taken at the earliest.
"We scrutinised the rolls after the Lok Sabha election and spotted nearly 31,234 names that appeared twice, following which we approached the election department. The revised list published on Aug 6 still showed 30,812 names appearing twice, and surprisingly, the latest list released in the last week of Aug still reflected 24,426 names appearing twice out of the total 4.6 lakh strength of voters in the assembly constituency. We will approach the high court if no corrective action is taken," Paranjape said.
Shiv Sena (UBT) former MP Rajan Vichare made similar allegations recently, saying nearly 1.9 lakh bogus voters had been registered across the six assembly segments of the Thane Lok Sabha constituency alone in the revised rolls published on Aug 30.
Deputy district election officer Vaishali Mane remained unavailable for comment.
