Varanasi: The police on Monday arrested a woman and two men for allegedly being involved in religious conversion in Azamgarh district.
According to reports, Jittu Sonkar, a resident of Sarai Mandaraj under the City Kotwali police station area, went to a religious gathering and observed that residents Rajesh Kumar and his wife, Indubala, had gathered several people near their home.

Under the guise of a prayer meeting and removing evil spirits, people were being enticed with money to convert to Christianity. When he objected, he was also offered money to remain silent. The police reached the scene after receiving information. In a separate incident in the Maharajganj police station area, one man was arrested for illegal conversion activities.
Azamgarh SP Hemraj Meena said that following a complaint in the Kandharapur police station area, Rajesh Ram and his wife, Indubala, were arrested, while in the Maharajganj police station area, Amarnath Rajbhar was taken into custody.
The SP mentioned that cases are being filed against Rajesh Ram and his wife at Kandharapur police station and against Amarnath Rajbhar at Maharajganj police station under the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. An investigation is underway to assess since when the conversion activities were being conducted. CO Sagri and CO City are conducting the investigation to uncover the participants, their protectors and the source of funding.
