Ahmedabad: Four out of every 10 trauma cases are now related to vehicular accidents, says Dr Sanjay Shah, a senior consultant trauma surgeon and head of emergency at Apollo Hospital.
"Over the past 10 years, we have seen accidents becoming more severe with vehicles travelling at high speeds. Consequently, injuries to the head, neck, spine and chest are often grievous.
The first hour after the trauma is considered the golden hour, as timely treatment during this period can improve an injured person's chances of survival by 85%," he said.
Dr Shah was speaking on the second day of the Apollo Trauma Masterclass initiative, which saw participation from 250 doctors from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Neeraj Lal, the chief operating officer of Apollo Hospital, stated that the objective of the event was to standardise treatment guidelines and educate attendees about the most recent technological advancements.
