T'puram: LDF convener T P Ramakrishnan accused the opposition of deliberately disrupting the assembly proceedings and refusing to accept the speaker's ruling.
He claimed that the opposition MLAs would have manhandled the speaker if the watch and ward had not acted wisely.
During a press conference at the AKG Centre here on Monday, Ramakrishnan said opposition leader VD Satheesan lost control over his party's MLAs.
"Some opposition members did not follow Satheesan's directives, leading to acrimonious scenes in the House. Even after the speaker's ruling and the opposition leader's appeal, some members were unwilling to return to their seats," Ramakrishnan said.
The LDF convener, while avoiding revisiting the ruckus in the assembly during the Oommen Chandy govt's rule, accused the opposition members of challenging the core of parliamentary democracy by refusing to accept the speaker's rulings.
"The opposition leader often complains about being targeted in the house, but he attacked the CM using the most abusive terms and criticized the speaker in deplorable ways," Ramakrishnan said.
He said the chief minister had expressed govt's willingness to discuss the notice on the adjournment motion. The speaker also provided a detailed explanation of the procedure followed while categorizing questions into starred and unstarred ones. However, the opposition was not willing to cooperate, Ramakrishnan added.
