Kanpur: Decomposed body of a woman Mayadevi (85), wife of late Ashok Dhanuk, was found in her house in Shuklaganj, in Gangaghat area on Sunday afternoon.
Neighbours informed the police after they noticed a foul smell emanating from the house. After about three hours of efforts, the police entered the room by breaking an iron door. The body, wrapped in a mosquito net, was fund lying on ground.
The post-mortem report revealed that the woman died of an illness.
She lived alone in her house and her daughter had not visited her since marriage. Her son, a drug addict, was untraceable. The elderly woman worked as cleaner at a public toilet in Kanpur to earn her living. By the time the police arrived, the body had decomposed and seemd to around four days old, said police.
Station officer Anurag Singh said that the woman lived alone while whrereabouts of her son, Deepak, an addict, are unknown. The post-mortem report indicated that the woman died from a lung infection. After postmortem, the body was handed over to a neighbour Islam.
