Ludhiana: After the collapse of a house in Bandeya Mohalla, MC building branch officials have served notices on two other unsafe structures in the same lane. Owners of these buildings have been asked to demolish the structures, failing which MC will recommend police action against them. One of these houses is the same one which collapsed but has an unsafe part still standing.
Residents upset with MCThe street in Bandeya Mohalla where the building collapsed is still blocked as debris has not been cleared completely.
Area residents feel that simply serving notices on owners of unsafe buildings will not change anything. They claimed that another unsafe building is on the verge of collapse but the MC is only issuing notices. They pointed out that no senior MC official had visited the spot and building branch officers were “misleading their superiors.”
BJP leader: Who will take responsibility? BJP leader and advocate Harsh Sharma, who lives in the area, asked the MC commissioner who would take responsibility if the unsafe part of the building in the area collapsed. He said that MC officials could not evade responsibility by merely issuing notices to owners of unsafe properties. He said that a notice had been issued to the owner of the building which collapsed back in 2021 but no other action was taken. He added that he would meet the MC commissioner alongwith area residents to discuss the issue on Monday.
Aware of issue: MC officialMeanwhile, assistant town planner (ATP) Zone-A Madanjeet Bedi said that they were aware of the presence of another unsafe structure and had issued a notice to the owner of the property to remove it. He said that if the property owner did not remove both the unsafe structure and the debris on the street, a recommendation for registration of police FIR would be made on Monday.
