Min reviews development schemes for tribals dwelling in vicinity of forests
Patna: Minister for environment, forest and climate change department, Prem Kumar, at a meeting with senior officials on Saturday, reviewed development plans for scheduled tribes living in the vicinity of forests.
“The minister has been constantly reviewing the progress of the scheme time to time and trying hard to bring the forest dwellers into the mainstream of the society,” a report from the department said.

Under the Scheduled Tribes Welfare Scheme, the department concerned has allotted significant funds for the welfare of this community. The two key sub-schemes running for this community include Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub Scheme (SCA To TSS) and Article 275 (1) of the Constitution. The main objective of this scheme under the department of environment, forest and climate change, Bihar, is to work for the development and improving the living standards of Scheduled Castes and Tribes living in the forest areas.
The department concerned has launched various schemes for this community, which include constructing approach roads, installing solar streetlights, supplying ambulances, providing e-rickshaws for livelihood, installing hand pumps, constructing check dams, and providing various types of trainings to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe people to help them earn a livelihood.
According to the department, in 2023, a total of Rs1,345.93 lakh was received for Gaya, Munger, Rohtas, Kaimur, Jamui and Bettiah division-1 and division-2 under the SCA to TSS scheme, out of which Rs631.17 lakh was spent.
Similarly, under Article 275 (1) of the Constitution, a total of Rs1,204.82 lakh was transferred to Gaya, Munger, Banka, Purnia and Jamui forest divisions, out of which Rs826.087 lakh was spent.

Again, Rs592.02 lakh has been transferred to Gaya, Rohtas, Kaimur, Munger, Betiah forest division-1 and division-2 for the development of Scheduled Tribes under Article 275 (1) while Rs669.61 lakh has been allotted to the respective forest divisions under the SCA to TSS scheme for the current financial year, according to official information.
