Judicial probe ordered into Dechu custodial death, DSP suspended
Jodhpur: The district administration on Saturday ordered a judicial inquiry into the alleged suicide of a rape accused in custody in Phalodi's Dechu police station on Thursday night.
In another development, director general of police (DGP) suspended deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Shankarlal Chhaba over the incident. Prior to this, all 24 police personnel, including the station in-charge and ASI of Dechu police station, had been sent to police lines on Friday.

The protest over the man's suicide was called off late on Friday night after the entire police personnel sent to lines and assurance of job and compensation. Following the end of this deadlock, the post-mortem of the accused was conducted by a medical board on Saturday. Accused's family members and community people were present at the hospital during post-mortem.
It may be noted that Phool Singh, an accused of raping a deaf-mute minor, had committed suicide in a room of Dechu police station on Thursday night by hanging himself from the ventilator grill of the room using his scarf on Thursday night. His family members had alleged that he had been kept at the police station without arrest in papers and had been put up in a room instead of the cell for the accused in the police station.
