Ludhiana: Police arrested a woman for abetment to suicide after a 35-year-old man, with whom she was in a relationship, committed suicide by hanging himself using her dupatta. The deceased has been identified as Nagendra Kumar Bharti, 35, a daily wager from Prem Nagar in Dhandari Khurd.
Police lodged an FIR against the accused, Chanderkala, 28, of Durga Colony, on the complaint of Nagendra’s wife Sunita Devi.
In her police complaint, Sunita Devi said that on the evening of October 2, her husband left the house saying that he was going to the market.
When he did not return after a few hours, she called him. She said that the call was answered by a woman, who told her that Nagendra had died at her house. She rushed to the spot and found her husband dead with injury marks around his neck.
Assistant sub-inspector Rajinder Kumar, investigating officer from the Focal Point police station, said that the autopsy confirmed it to be a case of suicide.
Investigations revealed that Nagendra had an affair with Chanderkala and would live at her house on and off.
When he went to meet her on October 2, they had an argument as Chanderkala wanted him to live exclusively with her. Nagendra tried to hit her but she locked herself in the bathroom while he hanged himself. A case was filed against Chanderkala under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of BNS and she was arrested.
