Power cuts in parts of island city amid October heat
Mumbai: Residents of parts of Sion, Pratiksha Nagar, and Wadala experienced power outages for at least an hour amidst the sweltering October heat, causing inconvenience to many. The disruption was caused by a tripping incident in the BEST feeder, specifically due to a fault in the 11KV feeder at Pratiksha Nagar, Transit Camp no.3. BEST fault engineers were on-site, working diligently to restore the power supply to the affected areas, an official said.

According to a BEST official, the feeder tripping was the primary reason for the power disruption. A former BEST panel member alleged that the island city is also grappling with staff shortages within BEST, which has contributed to delays in restoring the power supply.
This incident is not an isolated occurrence, as Mumbai has experienced power cuts earlier this month as well. Just three days prior, on the first day of Navratri, certain parts of the island city, especially the Bhuleshwar area, faced power outages. BEST officials attributed these power cuts to the increased power load in specific pockets of south and central Mumbai, which they believe is a result of the ongoing festive season.
