Three college students dead in road accident in Dindigul

Three college students were killed after a speeding container lorry collided with their motorbike on Dindigul-Natham road. The incident led to a protest from locals who claimed that speeding lorries from a nearby juice factory frequently caused accidents. Police assured action and are investigating the lorry driver.

DINDIGUL: Three youths were killed after a container lorry from the opposing direction hit their two-wheeler near Natham in Dindigul district on Sunday.
According to the police, the deceased were identified as Balaji, 19, Praveen, 19, and Dinakaran, 20, of Ashok Nagar in Natham, all college students. On Sunday morning, the trio went for a kabaddi event near Sanarpatti and were on their way back home in a motorbike.
However, as they were crossing near a juice factory on Dindigul-Natham road near Gopalpatti, a speeding container lorry from the opposite direction hit their vehicle. The three youths were thrown off from the motorbike due to the impact. Balaji and Praveen died on the spot.
Dinakaran was rescued alive and was rushed to Dindigul govt medical college hospital for treatment. But, he too died without responding to treatment. The Sanarpatti police registered a case and were investigating the lorry driver. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post mortem examination.
Meanwhile, following the accident, villagers suddenly protested on Dindigul-Natham road condemning that many container lorries from the juice factory in the area were speeding often and leading to accidents. Police held talks with the protesting people and they dispersed after they were assured appropriate action will be taken. Traffic movement on Dindigul-Natham road was affected for more than half an hour.
