New Delhi: The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) has established 13,822 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across India as of September 30, 2024, offering affordable medicines to millions of citizens.
The initiative recorded ₹200 crores in sales in September 2024—the highest monthly figure since the scheme’s inception. This marks a 42% increase from the ₹141 crores reported in September 2023, reflecting the growing success of the program in providing accessible healthcare.
The sales surge is part of a broader trend of growth, with the program achieving 31.20% of its total annual target by September 2024. With ₹913.30 crores in sales already recorded this year, Jan Aushadhi Kendras now serve approximately 10 lakh people daily, underscoring the program’s importance in delivering low-cost, high-quality healthcare solutions.
Since its launch a decade ago, PMBJP has sold medicines worth ₹6,100 crores through Jan Aushadhi Kendras. These sales have resulted in an estimated savings of ₹30,000 crores for Indian citizens, as medicines sold through the Kendras are priced at a maximum of 50% of the average cost of the top three branded medicines.
In some cases, prices for Jan Aushadhi medicines, surgical devices, and nutraceuticals are as much as 80-90% cheaper than their branded counterparts. PMBI, the implementing body of PMBJP, is aggressively pursuing its goal to increase the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras to 25,000 across the country.
