Thane Police Arrest School Trustees Linked to Badlapur Sexual Assault Case

Thane, 4th October 2024: On Wednesday, Thane Police apprehended two school trustees connected to the sexual assault case in Badlapur, as confirmed by an official.

This development followed the Bombay High Court’s denial of pre-arrest bail for the school chairman and secretary, where the court criticized the police for their previous inaction in making the arrests.

According to the police, the Thane crime branch detained the suspects in Karjat and will transfer them to the special investigation team looking into the alleged sexual assault of two kindergarten girls at the Badlapur school in August.

In its ruling on Tuesday, the high court remarked that there appears to be sufficient evidence indicating that the two accused were aware of the alleged incident before August 16 but neglected to notify the authorities or law enforcement.

The court highlighted the legal duty to report offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSOA) if an individual is aware of or made aware of the crime.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that the primary suspect in the case, a sweeper named Akshay Shinde, died in an alleged encounter with police on September 23.
