Satoshi Revealed? New HBO Doc Promises to Electrify Bitcoin Market

Who is Satoshi?

Why did he create Bitcoin?

And perhaps most importantly – who controls the 1.1M Bitcoin still held in his wallets?

A new HBO documentary, ‘Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,’ promises to reignite the debate over the true identity of Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

Will the new show settle the debate or just leave more questions behind?

Let’s take a look at what we know so far.

HBO Launches New Documentary – Revelation or Speculation?

Directed by Cullen Hoback and produced by Adam McKay, the film explores whether Nakamoto was a lone genius or part of a larger group.

Much of the film focuses on cypherpunk Adam Back, an early Bitcoin pioneer who has long denied being Satoshi.

Per the trailer, the film centers around Back’s own experiences and interactions with Satoshi, using those as a lens to investigate the true identity of the Bitcoin creator.

However, rumors have emerged that the film may point to another candidate – Len Sassaman, an American cryptographer who tragically passed away in 2011.

Does Satoshi = Sassaman?

There are no ‘new’ theories regarding Satoshi’s identity. Various individuals have claimed the title, including Craig Wright, whose case infamously reached the UK High Court (where it largely failed).

There are even the usual rumors that if anyone knows, it’s the FBI – who, of course, won’t tell.

However, the Sassaman theory has a few key pieces of evidence to support it. It’s well-established. Evan Hatch wrote a lengthy tribute to Sassaman in 2021, exploring the theory in-depth.

I think there is a real possibility that Len was a direct contributor to Bitcoin.Evan Hatch

Hatch’s 2021 article (the basis for a separate, unpublished documentary) goes into great detail, exploring Sassaman’s background and connecting it to the unique world of early cryptography.

Sassaman was linked to Satoshi by early direct rumors.

Hatch also clarified that the question of Satoshi’s identity goes beyond Bitcoin itself

It involves the origins of cypherpunk, a desire for a society that thrives on individual privacy and freedom, and, of course, an untouched fortune.

Conclusion – Satoshi’s Identity and the $BTC Market

The implications of identifying Satoshi could have major effects on the Bitcoin market, especially considering Nakamoto’s wallets, which contain over 1M $BTC

Post claiming that the new HBO doc identifies Sassaman as Satoshi.

If Satoshi isn’t Sassaman – and if the HBO documentary can prove who it is – concerns could emerge about the future of these holdings

The mystery is far from over.

For now.
