On Friday, Oct. 4, Carbondale Arts will host a First Friday opening reception for two new exhibitions, featuring all local artists.
Women (Im)Print showcases hand-printed works by Katie Browne and Bailey Haines, collaborators and friends. The title of their show is a play on words; printmaking is the mode in which they creatively express themselves while acknowledging the inspiration from the imprints people and places have left on their lives, and vice versa.
In addition to Women (Im)Print, local arts nonprofit The Project Shop will feature a group exhibition of student artists, titled Community Service Print Projects. The shop offers this program to engage students to express their voices on critical issues by learning design development, printmaking, and production skills with access to equipment and instruction in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.
These projects demonstrate how art can encourage conversation and connection within our communities.
“The service-based projects not only allow the younger generation to shine light on current issues, but are also bridges of connections between individuals and the wider community,” said student-artist Mandy Lei.
This program is made possible by an Arts in Society grant, cross-sector collaborations, and donations.
The opening reception will be at The Launchpad during October’s First Friday from 5-7 p.m. with an artist talk at 5:30 p.m. Women (Im)Print and Community Service Print Projects will be on display through Nov. 1.
