A surprising turn in the Season 36 opener of The Simpsons has many fans speculating about the program’s future.  On September 29, 2024, The Simpsons’ Season 36 premiere, Bart’s Birthday, debuted with a surprising turn of events. A cartoon representation of former Simpsons writer Conan O’Brien hosted the episode, which served as the show’s end.

O’Brien made light of Fox’s decision to end the show when it debuted at the Dolby-Mucinex Theatre. “It’s such an honor to be with you all for the series finale of The Simpsons,” he stated.

He added, “This show was such a special part of my early career, so being here means the world to me,” O’Brien mentioned. O’Brien joked that this was his last chance to retrieve the sweater he had left in the writer’s room back in 1993.

The Simpsons paid homage to its lengthy history, with O’Brien joking that Fox had been trying to cancel the show since its debut in 1989. Joel McHale, one of the many guest stars he introduced, was a play-off of the network’s other live-action series.

Cleverly parodying, O’Brien claimed that artificial intelligence wrote the script for the show. The novella, titled Bart’s Birthday, parodied the custom by using frequent series finale cliches.

Events that altered the lives of major characters occurred. Mr. Burns passes away, Principal Skinner retires with plans to relocate to a new school in Sacramento, and Milhouse’s family relocates to Atlanta. It seems obvious that the purpose of these occurrences was to mislead spectators into believing they were witnessing the actual end of the performance.

The realization that Bart was turning eleven years old, which was a significant change as Bart had always been 10 throughout the series, was one of the most memorable events.

Variety claims that The Simpsons hasn’t finished despite the elaborate preparation for the grand season finale. New episodes, including the eagerly awaited 35th annual Treehouse of Horror Halloween episode, are on the way, however Fox has not formally renewed the series for a 37th season. The Simpsons and Robot Chicken creator Stoopid Buddy Studios will mock Marvel superhero Venom this year.
