US Upland cotton sales down 18%, Pima eases 23% this week: USDA

The net sales of Upland cotton in the United States for the 2024-25 season totalled 87,800 running bales (RB), with each bale weighing 226.8 kg (500 pounds). This represented a decrease of 18 per cent from the previous week and 38 per cent from the prior 4-week average.

According to the USDA's export sales report for the week ending September 19, the increases were primarily attributed to Turkiye (31,500 RB), Pakistan (31,100 RB), Vietnam (13,300 RB), China (4,700 RB), and Peru (3,600 RB).

Exports of 79,500 RB for the week were down 39 per cent from the previous week and 43 per cent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Pakistan (18,100 RB), India (12,200 RB), China (9,100 RB), Mexico (6,400 RB), and Honduras (6,100 RB).

The net sales of Pima cotton, totalling 10,800 RB for 2024-25, were down 23 per cent from the previous week and the prior 4-week average. The main increases were for India (4,700 RB, including reductions of 1,600 RB), China (2,600 RB), Pakistan (1,800 RB), Thailand (1,100 RB), and Japan (300 RB). Exports of 7,100 RB were up 58 per cent from the previous week, but down 3 per cent from the prior 4-week average. The main destinations were India (5,000 RB), Peru (1,000 RB), Pakistan (300 RB), Turkiye (300 RB), and Guatemala (200 RB).
