Thane police said that a 23-year-old janitor, accused in a child sexual abuse incident in Badlapur, was killed during a police encounter on Mumbra bypass in Thane district. The accused was shot dead by police in retaliation after he grabbed an officer's firearm and fired it at a police team escorting him in an attempt to flee custody, according to police officials. Officials added that the accused fired a total of three shots, resulting in one police officer being wounded. However, the accusided was ultimately killed by police gunfire.

Kerala HC dismisses actor Sidhique's anticipatory bail plea in rape case

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Malayalam film actor Sidhique in a rape case registered against him based on a complaint by an actress. "Application is dismissed," Justice C S Dias said. The detailed order giving reasons for rejecting the actor's plea is not yet available.
Sidhique, who was booked for offences under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation), has claimed in his plea that the complainant female actor, has subjected him to the "prolonged campaign of harassment and false accusations since 2019".

The family members of Badlapur sexual assault case accused Akshay Shinde have challenged the police claim that he fired at a policeman first following which cops fired in self-defence which led to his death. Shinde's kin also claimed that police pressured him for a confession in the sexual assault case. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday night said a high-level probe has been ordered into the incidents leading to Shinde's death.

Singapore's Indian-origin former transport minister S. Iswaran no longer faces corruption charges, the High Court said in his trial on Tuesday, adding that prosecution will, however, proceed with five other counts including obtaining valuable items as a public servant. The prosecution will proceed with four counts of obtaining valuable items as a public servant under Section 165 of the Penal Code, and one count of obstructing the course of justice under Section 204A(a) of the Penal Code, a report in The Straits Times said. All the other 30 charges will be taken into consideration, it said.
