Siegel: Pete Rice’s institutional knowledge of Aspen is unparalleled

I have had the privilege of working with Pete Rice on several infrastructure projects, for example, the Eighth Street re-alignment of the bus/pedway corridor. “Privilege” is the right word because seeing him tackle a project is like attending a master class in goals oriented engineering coupled with understanding community values with a large dose of patience. Pete’s knowledge of the city and its institutional history is unparalleled, not only what we see above ground but all “stuff” that lies underneath. That has allowed him to quickly sort out the doable from the pipe dreams so often expressed by those with opinions devoid of facts. He has been steadfastly objective and not swayed by political whims. The City may fill his position but it cannot replace him.
Simply put, the city of Aspen today is a much better place to live in because of all his past efforts on our behalf.
Thank you, Pete. Good luck going forward and we will always keep a light on for you.
