Key Updates
- September 19, 2024 09:58W6th over
OUT! Rohit Sharma is gone. It was coming. Hasan did trouble Rohit in the previous over. Good length, on the 4th stump. Nipped away from Rohit. He had to play the ball and gets the outside edge straight to slip.
Shubman Gill in at three. He’s beaten on the outside edge off the very first ball as he goes for a frontfoot defence.
- September 19, 2024 09:54IND 14/0
Now Jaiswal too gets his first boundary. Taskin bowls a fuller delivery, swinging into the left hander. Jaiswal beautifully pushes the ball past the mid on. Wristy.
- September 19, 2024 09:484IND 8/0
Ball is moving quicker through the air and Rohit is struck on the back pad. A huge appeal for LBW but the umpire doesn’t give it. Bangladesh review it but the ball tracking shows umpire’s call on wickets. Terrific delivery but Rohit survives. In this over, Hasan has attacked the area around the off stump more. A much better over this. However, Rohit ends the over with a four off the last ball. Square drives the ball to get the first boundary of the series.
- September 19, 2024 09:46IND 4/0
Taskin too is asking Rohit to drive the ball towards covers. And then he brings one into the batter! He’s struck on the thigh pad, but the ball is over the stumps for Bangladesh to appeal. Rohit is off the mark with a single off his 11th delivery.
- September 19, 2024 09:40IND 2/0
Hasan Mahmud is sharing the new ball with Tasking. He keeps the attack outside off, trying to lure Rohit into drive but the Indian captain is patiently letting the ball go.
- September 19, 2024 09:33IND 1/0
Taskin Ahmed with the new ball. Jaiswal on strike. Top of off and Jaiswal cuts it but the gully fielder saves it. First runs on the board as Jaiswal tucks the ball towards deep fine leg for a single. Quick and bounce on offer. A good over for Taskin.

We are done with the national anthems. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are walking into the field. Bangladesh fielders are already there.

From Virat Kohli inching closer to Sachin Tendulkar to Ravindra Jadeja reaffirming his status as an ace all-rounder, plenty of milestones to watch out for in this series.
- September 19, 2024 09:13“It is an honour that we have got Jasprit Bumrah playing for us”
Ahead of his first Test assignment as India head coach, Gautam Gambhir cut to the chase in typical fashion, mincing no words in extolling pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who had finally dispelled the nation of its obsession with batters, as the best fast bowler going around in all three formats.

- September 19, 2024 08:59Pitch report
Very cool at the moment but as the day progresses, it promises to be 33-34 degrees. It’s red soil pitch which means bounce, turn, and spinners will come into play as the game progresses. They have left a little bit of residual moisture underneath the pitch. So, the fast bowlers will have their say at the start, reckons Dinesh Karthik.
- September 19, 2024 08:48What to expect from Chepauk pitch?
The match will be played on a red-soil pitch, which is not the typical surface the venue usually offers. It is likely to assist the pacers with its good bounce and carry, and the spinners could come into play at a later stage in the match when the pitch breaks under the sun.

- September 19, 2024 08:27How do Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma fare against spin?
Bangladesh, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, has emerged as one of the top spin-bowling sides. Since 2022, its spinners have taken 154 of the team’s 274 wickets, averaging 30.94 per wicket. - September 19, 2024 08:01What can we expect from India’s return to red-ball cricket?
Just less than eight months ago, when England visited India for a five-match Test series, armed with its newfangled ‘Bazball’ rhetoric, the air was humming with how the host’s spinners would face a litmus test in trying to contain an aggressive brand of cricket and maintain their dominance at home.
But when India takes on Bangladesh in the first Test here at the M.A. Chidambaram from Thursday, the tables will turn, and the exigencies of the longest format will be more fundamental as the host batters gear up for a trial by spin posed by a side riding high on a morale-boosting coup in Pakistan.
