Delhi minister Atishi will succeed as Arvind Kejriwal as chief minister after he resigns from the post after a meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena this afternoon. The decision was taken by AAP MLAs at a meeting at Kejriwal's residence. Kejriwal had announced his decision to resign from the post of chief minister on Sunday. On Monday, the party held a series of meetings as Kejriwal sought feedback from members of the political affairs committee, the party's highest decision-making body, on his successor in one-on-one meetings at his official residence. He had met senior leaders, including former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha, about the party's choice for chief minister.
Atishi holds several portfolios, including finance, education and PWD. AAP unanimously agreed to back the minister today after Kejriwal proposed her name as his successor in a meeting of the party's legislators.
