With deepest sorrow we announce that Samuel Houston, 30, a most beloved son, brother and friend passed away after a tragic car accident as he was passing another vehicle—no other people or cars were involved.
All who knew Sammy, even just a little, have lost a shining light in their lives. His kind and gentle spirit attracted many friends, and his love and devotion to friends and family never wavered. He expressed his love to everyone by shouting out their name, giving big hugs, and sharing his magical smile and infectious laugh. If you knew Sammy, you knew you were loved.
Sammy excelled at lacrosse and hockey, where he was awarded Aspen Junior Hockey’s “Daily Sportsmanship Award” for his efforts. He was passionate about skiing, snowmobiling, water activities, hunting, rock collecting, cooking and playing and caring for all of the family pets—Sam was deeply connected to all animals. He found solace and joy in nature where he became a capable outdoorsman with extensive ranching and camping skills. Sammy was also a talented artist. His creativity lives on in drawings, metal art sculptures, and the memorable musical tunes and dance moves he shared with family and friends.
The image of Sammy playing his ukulele while singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” will live in our minds and hearts forever.
We believe Sammy is at peace in his new world and feel his presence daily. He will always be loved, and we will always feel his love.
Sam will be missed every day by his mother, Heidi Houston; father, Sam Houston, and stepmother, Lisa Houston; brother, Hart Houston and wife, Jillian; stepbrother, Andrew Feldman and wife, Claudia; stepbrother, Taylor Feldman; grandmothers, Alice Houston and Carmen Barnhart; aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, Delmi Cedillos Chicas, and many, many loving friends.
The mountains, trees and wind were his sanctuary and now we can see him all around us.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held in October.
