After a brave 26-year struggle with Parkinson’s Disease, Steve (Dego) Degouveia joined the Harley Riders Club in Heaven on August 16, 2024.

He was born in Concord, California, on July 15, 1948. Above all, Dego’s life was defined by great friends, a love of adventure, and a deep-seated love of life itself.

Being stationed in Panama for four years while in the United States Air Force sparked his love of travel and adventure. He eagerly embraced skiing, scuba diving, sailing in Mexico and the Caribbean, hiking with his Golden Retriever in the mountains above his beloved home in Aspen, exploring the history of Native Americans in the high desert areas of the Southwest, riding his Harley through Western Canada and the U.S., and traveling across the globe.

Between his many adventure travels, he somehow found the time and energy to successfully own and operate Footloose and Fancy Things, Aspen’s premier home of custom-made moccasins, Edward S. Curtis photographs, and the works of over 120 America’s finest craft artists.

Dego loved people and music, and the Rocky Mountains. His ubiquitous sense of humor bordered on zany with his jokes and pranks, leaving friends laughing and wanting more.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 25 years, Stacy Degoveia, his sister Rene Birkinbine, and his brothers Manuel and Greg Gouveia.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date in Aspen. As Dego prioritized finding joy in life and sharing it with others, his family asks that you do the same—go out and do something that brings you real joy and share it with those around you.
