Paris Paralympics 2024 LIVE Updates, Day 6: Avani sixth after prone stage, Pooja into recurve open quarters; latest results, score

The Indian stays in sixth with 301.5 points in comparison to 307.1 points set by Natascha Hiltrop.

A 9.1 and 9.8 seems to have dampen Avani’s score, she is currently sixth with 261.5 points.

Avani’s score of 201.5 puts her in third after the first series in prone position.

Every shooter will have three series of five shots each in the kneeling as well as the prone stage. It will be followed by two series of five shots each in the standing stage.

All eight shooters have seven minutes before the prone stage begins.

Avani scores a total of 150.9 after three series in kneeling position. The Indian Paralympic gold medal winner is currently second behind China’s Zhang Cuiping.

Avani is currently fifth with total of 100 points, having scored 9.2, 9.0 and 9.9 in her 7th, 8th and 9th shot in kneeling.

Slovakia’s Veronika Vadovicova and China’s Zhang Cuiping, the defending champion, are the other two shooters claiming the top spot.

Avani Lekhara is currently tied first after series one in kneeling with a total of 51.1.

Sheetal Devi became the youngest Indian medallist in the history of Paralympics as she won a bronze medal in the mixed team compound open archery event yesterday.

“For some time, I’m winning silver only be it Tokyo (Paralympics) or today, World Championships or Asian Games..everywhere I’m winning silver. Gaadi atak gayi hai (I’m stuck on silver). I think I need to work harder. Now I want gold.”

WIth Nithya’s medal, India surpassed its badminton medal tally of four in Tokyo.

“I’m unable to express my emotions. This would be my best moment. I have played against her(Rina) over 9-10 times but have never defeated her. I was telling myself even when I was in the lead to maintain focus and to not take it easy due to my past experience.”

In the women’s shot put F34 final, India’s Bhagyashri finishes in fifth with a best throw of 7.28m.

Avani qualified for the women’s 50m rifle 3P final while Pooja made it to the quarterfinals of the women’s recurve open. Both will be in action later today.

Mona ends her qualification with a score of 1147 with 38 inner tens. Her average score is 9.558 and that puts her temporarily in 13th place in the women’s 50m rifle 3P SH1 qualification.

Avani Lekhara has qualified for the women’s 50m rifle 3P SH1 final. She finished 7th with a score of 1159 with 59 inner tens and average score of 9.658. 

Bhagyashri’s best throw of 7.28m is not enough to get her a medal as she slid down to 4th place.. Four more throwers to go

The Indian beats Turkiye’s Yagmur Sengul 6-0 in the women’s recurve open 1/8 elimination. She makes it to the quarterfinal which will take place later in the day.

With the final round underway, it looks like Avani may just make it through to the final while things look difficult for Mona, who is currently in 15th.

With six throwers still left, Bhagyashri is placed second with a best throw of 7.28m.

One position left to for both the Indian shooters. Overall, Emilia Babska of Poland leads with an average score of 9.825. 

Avani (8th) - 9.725

Mona (15th) - 9.550

Mona only manages a 95 in the last series. A total of 764 with 26 inner tens and an average of 9.550 for her. She remains 15th while Avani is in 8th. 

The Women’s Shot Put F34 Final is underway. India’s Bhagyashri is the third thrower.

Avani ends the prone round with a total score of 778 and 38 inner tens. She remains 8th in the standings with an average of 9.725. Mona has one more series remaining.

After four series, Avani finishes with a score of 388 with 21 inner tens. Mona ends with a score of 381 and 10 inner tens. Next round: Prone. 

Avani has a total score of 214 with 13 inner tens which currently puts her in 3rd spot. Mona currently in 11th place with a score of 190 and 5 inner tens.

The kneeling position rounds are underway. In this position, each shooter will shoot four series of 10 each. 

Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal will be in action for India in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3P SH1, which begins at 1:00 pm IST.

Top 8 from the event will qualify for the final of the event.
