Jeweler Arrested 18 Years After Gold Theft

(IDEX Online) - A jeweler suspected of stealing gold from his employer 18 years ago has been arrested by police in India.
Mahindra Hashba Yadav, 53, from Mumbai, was apprehended over the the 2006 theft.
At the time he was working as a goldsmith in Muvattupuzha, in Kerala state, almost 900 miles away.
 
According to media reports he disappeared with 240g of gold that he was taking to be purified, and relocated to Mumbai, where he set himself up as a respectable jeweler.
"Yadav, who was living in Mumbai as a jewellery store owner was arrested in a challenging early morning operation," a police officer told Times of India.
Detectives re-opened the "cold case" many years later and arrested him after a tip-off that he was in Mumbai.
Yadav has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
