AS the title suggest i want to play around with attaching a egpu to my current laptop, This will be just an experiment to see how it performs in gaming.
I currently have a i5 11300h laptop with 32gb ram and a 1650 gpu, i dont play games much on my laptop as i have multiple gaming rigs but very curious to experiment with a egpu on this laptop.
Also if you have links to any reasonably priced solutions available in india which will be great. Any views about this are welcome.

how do you plan to connect the egpu to the laptop ? TB or oculink or m.2 ?

I have not thought about it, depends on what I find, I have option of using Tb or m.2, not sure about occulink.

Well if you have a Thunderbolt port in your laptop then the cheapest way would be to order a TB board like TH3P4G3 or adt ut3g, attach your gpu and PSU to it and connect it to your laptop.
There are many such setups on https://new.reddit.com/r/eGPU/

No its not, you'll have to source it from outside.
Only oculink boards are available in India : https://www.amazon.in/dp/B0BZZ2MXT7
but for oculink you will need to add the oculink port to your laptop and for that you will need an empty m.2 port, so its not as accessible as TB.

@OMEGA44-XT did some research & found it not practical at the time.
+1

It's more of a experiment for me then practicality, I have 2 good specced rigs to play with...this is just something of a side project.
I have Alienware m15 with easy to use TB3 as well as propreitory connector for eGPU but eGPU made no sense cost-wise. I had the option to import dock from US but still didn't make to buy a $200 dock in addition to a GPU. I built a desktop when my laptop was 3 years old.

Buddy as I explained, I understand the idea that it's better to build a desktop then doing a egpu thing, but I only plan to experiment and would not be spending $150-$200. I wanted to understand what to look for and now I know, I have a 120w pico psu with a 120w adapter which will be powering this contraption, I would also be keeping an open eye to find someone who is selling one of the solutions cheaper.

What I am after is how well does it scale, pros and cons performance wise, any major limitations. Online resources are limited in this area.

I already have 3 desktops 4070ti,3060ti and 6500xt so I don't need this for primary gaming, only experimentation.

Check videos by Jarrod Tech on pros & cons of eGPU. He made some few years back.

Nice, where did you get that 120watt pico psu ? Is that the one that ETA prime channel has used in some of his projects.
I am planning to order some oculink components from china and will keep you posted. Keep hacking, experimenting, failing and learning !!

If you can import it , the MinisForum DEG1 might be your best bet under 100 USD

Damn!! Three times as expensive as ordering TH3P4G3 or adt ut3g from China.

Thats what I am waiting for. They dont seem to be shipping to India as of now. Running my eGPU setup currently over a 7k inr board I got from amazon.

I'd love to try it as well if I ever do a SFF pc build, or get a HandHeld that can use Thunderbolt / Oculink out of the box (There's the rog ally X but it's too expensive)

The idea behind this dock is to later use it with a micro based pc for leisure gaming when needed but testing with the current laptop to check if it works good.
