Don’t just sit at home! There are plenty of great things to do around New York City this weekend.

Here’s a look at some of the best events happening around town between Aug. 16-18.

Friday, Aug. 23: Gundams!

The 2024 Gundam Base Mobile Tour: Bandai Namco Toys & Collectibles America Returns to the road with a special Gundam Base Mobile USA Tour offering Gundam fans of all ages the ultimate GUNPLA experience. Attendees will immerse themselves with a hands-on GUNPLA workshops where they can build the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam, grab exclusive model kits and more. Times Square (on 7th Ave between 46th and 47th St), Manhattan. 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Free. 

Destination Cosmos: The Immersive Space Experience: Prepare for an unforgettable journey through the cosmos with “Destination Cosmos: The Immersive Space Experience” at Hall des Lumières! Featuring stunning NASA imagery, this awe-inspiring adventure will transport you from the launch pad to the far reaches of the universe. Hall des Lumières, 49 Chambers St., Manhattan. 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Tickets start at $30 for adults, $17 for youth ages 5-16; free for children under 5. 

Saturday, Aug. 24: Street fair fun!

Feast of Santa Rosalia: The 2024 Feast of Santa Rosalia, the “18th Avenue Feast” celebrates its 50th year held in honor of St. Rosalia, the patron saint of Palermo, and features a huge variety of delicious food and treats, carnival rides and games for all ages, live music and entertainment every night, and fun for the entire family! 18th Ave – between 68th St and 75th St/Bay Ridge Parkway, Brooklyn. All day. Free admission. 

KoKo NYC South Slope Derby: KoKo NYC presents the 17th annual South Slope Derby, a celebration of creativity and innovation! In the South Slope Derby, the kids put their creations to the test in a race down 17th Street in South Slope, Brooklyn. 17th Street between 5th Ave. and 6th Ave., Brooklyn. 12 – 3 p.m. Free.

Sunday, Aug. 25: Glitz and Giggles!

Alyssa Edwards: Glitz and Giggles: Alyssa Edwards stars in Glitz and Giggles! Join RuPaul’s Drag Race’s + RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars icon Alyssa Edwards for an evening of sickening looks, laughs, and fun. The Brooklyn Monarch, 23 Meadow St., Brooklyn. 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. $50-$100.

Walking Tour: “All-of-a-Kind Family”: Take the kids on a trip to the literary Lower East Side! Follow in the footsteps of Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte, and Gertie, the beloved sisters depicted in Sydney Taylor’s children’s classic All-of-a-Kind Family. Museum at Eldridge Street, 12 Eldridge St., Manhattan. 10:30 a.m. Adults $15 Seniors, Students $12, Children 5-17 $10, Children Under 5 free.
