New Subsea Cable Routes

200 tbps is a theoretical maximum of 200,000 1 gbps connections being saturated at the same time. Nice.

This probably won't make a major impact to latency because we already have cables in place for many of these routes. We'll need to abandon submarine cables altogether and shift to a satellite-to-satellite internet backbone to get big improvements in latency at this point. Because light is 1.5x faster in air/vacuum than it is inside a fiber optic cable and also because satellites will allow for much shorter paths between places than just following the ocean floor. Imagine getting a ping under 100ms to NY from India.

Yeah, LEO satellites are promising after starlink demonstrated what can be done. As per reviews, jitter and lag spikes still needs more improvements.
