Celina Jaitly on Mental-Physical Harassment

There is outrage across the country over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Everyone wants the culprit to be punished as soon as possible. bollywood stars are also expressing their anger over this. Now actress Celina Jaitly has mentioned the incidents that happened to her. She has posted a long post on Instagram. She has also shared a photo of her school.

'Boys used to stand outside my school, follow me'

The actress wrote, 'The victim is always at fault: In this photo, I was in 6th class. At that time, boys from the university near me started waiting outside my school. They used to follow the school rickshaw and whistle every day. I used to pretend that I had not noticed anything. After a few days, they started throwing stones at me to get my attention. No one on the road paid any attention to this.'

'A man showed his private parts'

'A teacher told me that it was my fault because I am too Westernized. I don't wear loose clothes and I don't put oil in my hair and tie it in two plaits. Another incident happened at this age when I was waiting for my school rickshaw in the morning and a man showed me his private parts. For many years I blamed myself for this incident and kept repeating the words of the teacher that it was my fault.'

Further, the actress wrote- 'In 11th class, they cut the brake wires of my scooty because I was ignoring those boys of the university who used to harass me and call me dirty names, used to leave obscene notes behind my scooter. The boys studying with me were scared for me and they told the teachers. My class teacher said- 'You are a forward type of girl, you drive a scooter, you go to extra classes wearing jeans, and keep your hair open, so boys think that you are loose.' It was always my fault.

'I still remember the day when I jumped off the scooter to save myself because the brake wires of my scooter were cut. I was badly hurt, but it was still my fault. My retired Colonel Nanji who fought two wars for our country used to drop me to school and bring me back. Those boys used to follow me even after damaging my scooter. They used to make fun of my maternal grandfather and make comments on him. Nana used to stand and stare at them. There was hatred on his face for those for whom he had risked his life. Now the time has come for us to stand up and protect our rights. It is not our fault. How many girls agree with this?'
