Tom McBride: Tipping destructive for everyone

This arguing over taxing on tips has gone too far. A certain percentage of income from tips is hidden from the government in a clockwork and undetectable fashion. As taxpayers, this should bother us.
This all started with a European custom a long time ago (nothing against the Europeans). Pay people a working wage and be done with it.
On the surface, or to the casual viewer, it sounds “giving,” or “generous,” but it is destructive for everyone. As many politicians as there are, there are amendments to tax laws — consequences are down the road, so they don’t seem relevant.
Waitstaff should be taxed at a lower rate than the wealthier, but there should be no loopholes.
