Hi folks,

My laptop's headphone jack has stopped working for sound output (mic still works). I don't really have the time/patience to troubleshoot this right now and I'm thinking of getting a USB adapter to cheaply solve the issue. I need to take video calls on this so it has to work for that.

Couple of questions:
- Does any USB C to 3.5 adapter work with laptops or are there different types? I'm thinking of getting either of these:
- https://www.amazon.in/Portronics-Connector-Headphone-Converter-Compatible/dp/B0CVN4DNWY Portronics
- https://www.amazon.in/Sounce-Connector-Headphone-Converter-Compatible/dp/B0D11PLVD9 Sounce - has a couple of bad reviews on the front page.
- Why are USB A adapters so much more expensive than USB C? I thought given that A is so old those would be cheaper?
e.g. https://www.amazon.in/Verilux®-External-Splitter-Converter-Compatible/dp/B0BTDLRTNL is 350

Edit: Laptop is a ThinkPad L490.

You mean in the last product image? That's a fair point, but a couple of reviews mention that it works well with laptops including the headset's mic.
and some others I saw

Where do you see that? One below is not that much
Not that much in absolute terms, yea, but 1.5x what the USB C ones cost.

Sounce has some reviews that say it stopped working very soon, so not really keen on that one.

At this price you can afford to pick up more than one. Give us a review after

I've bought Portronics for now, let's see how it goes.

@calvin1719 How is the Portronics USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter? Did it work properly with your laptop, which I assume has a USB-C port.
Traditionally, the USB-A to 3.5mm adapter work well with ANY laptop/PC. Interestingly, they are "Driverless", and hence start working instantly, without any fuss.
For anyone looking to buy a good quality USB-A to 3.5mm adapter, the Aropana product is good:
