What just happened? Elon Musk hosted a live interview with Donald Trump on Monday that was supposed to start at 8 pm ET on X Spaces. It was delayed by 42 minutes due to what Musk claims was a "massive DDOS attack," but several people, including some X employees, say he's lying.

The live conversation between Musk and Trump on Spaces crashed as soon as it began yesterday and couldn't be accessed by many users. The Verge writes that those who did manage to get in were met with lo-fi techno playing from Trump's account for roughly 30 minutes before enduring several minutes of silence before the stream started at 8.40 pm ET.

Around 18 minutes after the interview was supposed to begin, Musk posted that X had been hit by a massive DDoS attack and that only a small number of people would be able to listen to the conversation live.

"All of our data lines, like basically hundreds of gigabits of data, were saturated," Musk said. "We think we've overcome most of that."

Musk later said that the system had been tested with 8 million concurrent listeners earlier in the day.

Despite claiming that the platform was being targeted by a DDoS attack, the rest of the X app and website were working fine. Musk never explained how this was possible.

"As this massive attack illustrates, there's a lot of opposition to people just hearing what President Trump has to say," he said.

According to The Verge, a source at X confirmed to the publication that there was no denial-of-service incident. Another employee said there was a "99 percent" chance Elon was lying about an attack.

X has faced difficulties with live streams in the past. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' announcement that he was running for president last year saw the Spaces broadcast drop shortly after it began. Musk blamed the problem on the servers "melting" due to the huge number of people trying to watch the stream.

However, Musk's biography later revealed that the problem was due to the servers being relocated after Musk instructed his cousins to move them from a data center in Sacramento to one in Oregon to save money. The move was completed in weeks rather than the several months that engineers estimated, resulting in months of instability in Twitter's systems.

Any info coming from The Verge I will take with a grain of salt. The Verge does not like Elon Musk.

How would someone DDoS Twitter, really? Do you have any idea how big the infra is? When did you last hear about a successful DDoS against Twitter, Twitch, or YouTube?

Well, they did lay off the majority of their workforce and have to make some major budget cuts. So the servers are probably in Elon's basement at this point.

Nobody likes Elon Musk except the rabid far right MAGA clowns. You know, the same people who absolutely hated him back before he started to pretend he's a conservative (just like Trump did). The guy was part of the so called Hollywood elite and produced cars that ran on electricity instead of fossil fuels.

By all accounts he was the Devil himself to the MAGA crowd back then. But as soon as he started to pretend he's conservative and embraced all kinds of ridiculous conspiracy theories he suddenly became some kind of digital messiah for the MAGA clowns. Funny how that works.

PS. - Trump and Musk are just PERFECT for each other. Both are ultra thin-skinned, self absorbed maniacs who only care about two things: money and power.

If there are X employees disagreeing with the God of Mars, I bet they will no longer be employed by X in the not-too-distant future.

Does Twitter even have infrastructure? My Google search revealed that they're split over AWS and Google Cloud Services. So they have pretty much the same attack surface as anyone else.

I agree with that, but the fact that X was working fine except for that one live stream, shows how dumb Musk see his followers.
Do you know how a DDOS works? You essentially have hundreds of thousands or millions of bots try to refresh or load a specific address. Heck, for all we know they could have expected higher than average traffic and it caused a DDOS naturally.

Projection is a helluva drug, eh?

Most of those laid off were either useless BRIDGE hires or censors to control wrongthink. Little of the technical staff was laid off.

There lots of DDOS groups out there for hire. The New Zealand agricultural forums get hit every month, same day the welfare checks come out, or when some big news happens. Streams get DDOSed all the time.

And Trump is gonna claim that there were so many people trying to get on X, or Y or whatever stupid name you want to call it.
That it brought the system to a halt.
Another lie to pile ontop of all the other BullSh*t that he claims.
Fade away Donald "Duck"
Just fade away

Musk knows his audience is gullible and stupid being trump supporters so he knew they would believe his lies.

Musk only cares about what he can get away with in regards to his companies. Begging Trump for deregulation near the end was awkward at best.

Why you so mad bro? Lol. It's not that deep..

...but several people, including some X employees, say Musk is lying.
Another day, another anti-Musk hit piece. The only lie here is the article itself. During the first 30 minutes of the outage, Musk stated "there appears to be" a DDOS attack on X. But within a few hours -- before the above story was even printed -- Musk stated that "unforced errors" by X employees contributed to the outage.

Musk was loved by the soft-minded Left until he released the Twitter files, revealed an illegal conspiracy between the FBI and Twitter/Facebook et al to silence true, but politically damaging stories and authors -- a violation of constitutional rights so severe that a federal judge barred the Biden Administration from further contact with social media firms.

I'm worried about Daffy Duck, Daffy does not seem well.

My great grand pa , though a photo and video of lots of people is AI, I worried about him.
Do you think my great grand pa should drive a car ? or have nuclear codes

Least Daffy has Epstein's jet to fly around in . Only fair as Daffy let Epstein and a very young woman fly in his own Jet

Anyway yay to Musk and Daffy they hate workers rights and love firing uppity workers trying to earn a crust for their families

Really slurring words, writing an obvious photo is AI - when event had lots of media - I would be concerned it this was a loved one.

Cloud services are infrastructure. They pay for control of X amount of cpu/memory/storage, AWS or Google Cloud don't control any of what is purchased. Instead of having physical servers on premises, they control portions of physical servers elsewhere. Or actually and probably more likely, they use pure dedicated hardware. It simply isn't in a building with the 'X' logo on it.

So you agree, the same attack surface as anyone else on AWS/Google. 😒

I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make. Are you suggesting it's possible to DDoS physical servers in a building with an X logo, but not on AWS or Google?

But unfortunately, successes against government excesses tend to be fleeting.

That is not even remotely true. I know of many people who like Musk (many are space junkies), and exactly none of them are "rabid far right MAGA clowns".
